Nuclear Policy Research Internship

The Nuclear Policy Research Internship is an in-person opportunity at our Washington, D.C., office.

The intern will work for up to 20 hours per week. The internship will start in mid-September and run for 12-14 weeks. Precise dates are negotiable.

Applicants must have authorization to work in the United States. We are unable to assist in procuring visas or work permits.

We are presently only accepting applications from undergraduate or graduate students who are eligible to receive a stipend from their university through an internship support program. To be considered for our fall 2025 internship, please submit an application by August 15, 2025.

This internship is an excellent opportunity to gain experience with various aspects of the Arms Control Association’s work. Expertise in the field of arms control and nonproliferation issues is not necessary, but candidates should demonstrate an interest in and commitment to these issues.

The intern in this role will have the opportunity to:

  • Research and track policy developments, activities, and events.
  • Research content, write, and copyedit print and electronic materials, including news content for Arms Control Today, fact sheets, Issue Briefs, blog posts, and newsletters.
  • Edit and upload content for the Arms Control Association’s website.
  • Assist in preparations for and support at the Arms Control Association Annual Meeting.
  • Engage in a variety of networking and issue-related in-person events.
  • Carry out other tasks assigned by staff.

Qualifications
Applicants should:

  • Have completed or be working toward a college degree, preferably in a related field (e.g., International Affairs, Political Science). Students pursuing advanced degrees are also encouraged to apply.
  • Be an effective communicator, both written and oral.
  • Have experience writing in multiple styles and voices (e.g., tweets, blog posts, news briefs).
  • Be self-motivated and detail-oriented, have good organizational skills, and be able to prioritize, multi-task, and meet deadlines, and
  • Have experience with Microsoft Office 365 and Google Workspace (required). Familiarity with HTML and CSS is a plus.
