The Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) currently has 183 states-parties. Five signatory states have not yet ratified.
The CWC entered into force on April 29, 1997, 180 days after the deposit of the 65th instrument of ratification. A country that did not ratify the CWC before it entered into force becomes a state-party to the CWC 30 days after it deposits its instruments of ratification or accession with the UN secretary-general.
